Bilingual Job Placement & Job Skills Program

Bilingual job placement and Job skills program

Hispanics that are having problems with the English language and acculturation can feel as if their job opportunities are limited.  As a result, they seldom put their talents to full use and rarely experience job satisfaction. Our challenge for this population is to identify work environments where they can develop their job skills, reinforce their confidence, boost their pride, and enhance their sense of responsibility.  Correct job placement and job skills training can save Hispanic clients time, frustration, and money.  The Bilingual Job Placement and Job Skills Program will work toward empowering Hispanics with important tools that will enable Hispanics to have more control of their lives.

Employment Coordinator, Maria Dimas, helps a client fill out an application. The program has two key components for unemployed Hispanics:

1.     The main goal of the Bilingual Job Placement program is to find jobs for Hispanics.  A bilingual employment coordinator helps place Hispanic applicants in a job, referring Hispanics through the network of employers.

  • 2.     The main goal of the Job Skills program is to empower Hispanics toward self-sufficiency.  Hispanics receive bilingual employment counseling, advice on job searches, advice on interviewing, and help with creating and completing resumes.  Hispanics will also have computer and internet access to work on resumes and conduct job searches.

This program is primarily funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne. Supplementary funding is recieved from the Community Development Block Grant from the City of Fort Wayne.
