ADULT:

 

Bilingual Job Placement and Job Skills Program

This program assists Hispanic applicants with filling out job applications and finding employment. The Bilingual Job Placement and Job Skills Program also offers job counseling, instructions on how to construct a resume, help with online job searches, and advice on job interviews.

A comprehensive tobacco education program which is ran by the Adult Tobacco Free Specialist and the HATF (Hispanic Advisory Tobacco Free) Coalition. The coalition includes members of the Fort Wayne community that work in partnership to outreach to Hispanics with the tobacco message. Many events and activities, large and small, are done to educate the community. In addition, the Adult Tobacco Free Specialist works with local employers and health care facilities to educate the Hispanic public and work to reduce the damage that tobacco causes in the community.

 

De Mujer a Mujer (Woman to Woman)

De Mujer a Mujer is a program for Hispanic women between the ages of fifteen and sixty-five. The goal of De Mujer a Mujer is to teach about and prevent HIV/AIDS and STDs. The program is delivered in a casual atmosphere in the homes of women, where they have discussions and participate in other awareness activities to reduce risky sexual behavior.

 

 

 

YOUTH:

 

LEAP Tutoring

LEAP is a year round program designed to help ENL (English as a New Language) students at Northwood Middle, Miami Middle, and South Side High Schools.  During the school year, bilingual tutors provide after-school tutoring and monthly field trips.  During the summer months, LEAP offers a 7-week program that focuses on English language development and cultural enrichment.

“Exito” Art

The “Exito” Art program is created in a way that allows students to express themselves through various art projects, while learning about art technique, style, and more. Students spend the semester working on art projects, including pottery, sculpture, drawing, and painting.

 

“Exito” Violin

This program is taught Pablo Vasquez, a violinist for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Students are provided with violins and taught how to play. The “Exito” violin program provides the opportunity for students to perform in front of an audience.

 

C.N.P. (Chartering New Paths)

CNP is a bilingual program that focuses on teaching drug and alcohol prevention, as well as social skills for middle and high school students.  It is an opportunity for youth to interact with other young people in a safe and drug-free environment. 

 

SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco)

SWAT is an anti-tobacco program for middle and high school students in Allen County to teach about the dangers of tobacco use, secondhand smoke, and addiction. SWAT is also structured to provide students with skills that will help in adulthood, such as leadership, teamwork, advocacy, and critical thinking. Students use these acquired skills to educate the community about tobacco through various means and events.

Girl Scouts

The Girl Scout program is an opportunity for Hispanic girls who want to have the scouting experience with other Hispanic girls. The girls involved are able to do all the things connected with Girl Scouting that they may have been unable to do otherwise.

 

Cub Scouts

The Cub Scout program helps young Hispanic boys become involved in scouting and gives them the opportunity to do activities that they may not do otherwise.
