Volunteer opportunities

 

United Hispanic Americans, Inc. (UHA) has volunteer opportunities open in the following areas:

 

Volunteer, Bernice Carmona, helps chaperone the younger girl scouts on a trip to Jefferson Pointe.Marketing

Volunteers are wanted to assist with marketing the organization to the Hispanic community and to the public. As a marketing volunteer, you might create flyers and brochures to distribute locally, write press releases about programs and events, and build relationships with local media outlets. Marketing volunteers need to be creative and be capable of using publishing software.

 

Fundraising

United Hispanic Americans would like volunteers to help with raising money for programs and the capital campaign. As a fundraising volunteer, you could create, organize, and implement a fundraising event or seek out and give presentations to potential funders. Strong verbal and persuasive skills are necessary.

 

Special Event Planning

Do you enjoy planning parties and special functions?  As a special event volunteer, you could assist in planning and executing a special project or you could simply attend the events and help with registration, serving, and other tasks that need done at that time. Must be organized and able to meet deadlines.

 

Technical Writing

Volunteers are needed to develop procedure or training manuals for programs, coordinators, volunteers, or the organization. Technical writing volunteers would need to have strong writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word.

 

Grant Writing

Would you like to learn how to research and write grants? UHA is in need of grant writing volunteers to assist in working to maintain program and capital money. Skills required include having strong writing skills and a proficiency with Microsoft Word. As a grant writing volunteer, you would research and write content for grants asking for funding for United Hispanic Americans’ programs and building.

UHA would like to have bilingual volunteers as receptionists. Tasks of a volunteer receptionist would include answering the phones, assisting bilingual clients, scheduling appointments, and other filing and clerical work. Volunteers will be trained on the phone system. Receptionist must be bilingual, polite, kind, patient, and organized.

 

Youth Assistants

Do you enjoy working with children and teenagers? Volunteers are needed to assist youth coordinators with meal preparation, youth supervision, mentoring, and field trips. During the school year, assistants would need to be available in the afternoons and evenings and some weekends. During the summer, volunteers would be needed during the daytime.  Requirements to be a youth assistant include patience, the ability to work with youth, and the capability to be a positive role model. All youth assistants are subject to a background check.

 

Tutoring

Would you like to help ENL (English as a New Language) students with their education? The LEAP program needs volunteer tutors to help with the after school and summer program. Tutors will submit to a background check and need to have patience, the ability to work with youth, and the capability to be a positive role model. Preferably, tutors should have a knowledge of another language and be able to assist middle and high school students with their homework.
