Why Give? How to Give?
Why Give to United Hispanic Americans?
For over forty years, United Hispanic Americans has been a key force in improving the quality of life for Hispanics in the areas of health, education, and self-reliance its advocacy, programs, and services. Your donation helps United Hispanic Americans provide youth and adult programs to population with the greatest economic need and the least opportunity.
Hispanic students face significant cultural challenges. Once here, Hispanic children not only are challenged to understand what is being said, but also are challenged to understand expectations regarding behavior. Children come from backgrounds with considerably different cultures, including basics, such as diet, religion, etiquette and values. Hispanic students are able to acculturate in school and in the extracurricular programs that United Hispanic Americans provides. However, efforts made to help students can be easily undone if there is not parental support at home.
The problem of acculturation affects Hispanic parents as well. Often, parents do not receive the information needed to understand the school system and to understand how people and culture is affection their sons and daughters. When this happens, parents and students become disengaged from each other, as well as becoming frustrated with the school system. Many times, all that stands between these international limited English proficient parents and students from becoming involved with the community or to acquire answers to their problems from the community is just the attention of a bilingual organization that has the reputation and experience in working with the Hispanic population.
Donated funds will be used to continue the level of programs and services and make the organization stronger. Help us to provide programming to Hispanic youth and adults in the areas of academic excellence, community engagement, and leadership.
