"Exito" Art & Violin
“Exito” Art
Many Hispanic students do not realize that they are surrounded by American and Hispanic art. Through the “Exito” Art program, students are able to learn how to see art in the world around them, the world outside of the classroom. They are also given the opportunity to experiment with a variety of art techniques and mediums.
Through this program, students learn how to set and accomplish deadlines and goals. They work on a number of different art projects, including pottery, sculpture, drawing, and painting. Students are exposed to worldwide styles of art through field trips that are used to make connections between class lessons and art in the real world.
The “Exito” Art program is funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Arts United, and the Lincoln Foundation. The program is open to sixteen students between the ages of twelve and seventeen. The program meets for two hours Monday through Wednesday during the school year and three hours on Monday and Tuesday during the summer. Transportation is available on a limited basis.

“Exito” Violin

Taught by Pablo Vasquez, a violinist for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the “Exito” Violin program is a weekly program that teaches students to play the violin. Students are provided with instruments and music arrangements, are taught violin basics and how to read notes, and are given practice and instruction. Once students have gained the skills necessary, including playing basic violin and working with one another in harmony, they are given the opportunity to perform for an audience.
The “Exito” Violin program is funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Center. Students between the ages of twelve and seventeen are invited to join; however, the class size is limited to eight students. Transportation is available on a limited basis.
